Lost & Invisible Camps

If you want to see the Ventana Wilderness, do what I’ve done. Hike every trail and visit every camp … - Ward Allison

paul danielson lost camps invisible campsInspired by these words from one who knew, Paul Danielson and friends set out to experience some of California’s wildest country – the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness areas. Lost Camps of the Ventana and its companion book Invisible Camps of the Ventana recount Paul’s many adventures into the rugged backcountry of the northern Santa Lucia Mountains in search of the few “flatish” places where Native Americans, anglers, cowboys and backpackers were able to set up camp.

Complete with maps, photos and driving instructions, Lost Camps and Invisible Camps are not just guidebooks; they are tales of adventure and a valuable historical resource. Brimming with a love of the chase, these books may just inspire you to embrace the quest.

Paul Danielson completed these works prior to his passing in 2016. As a former board member and volunteer with the VWA, Paul’s passion for the Big Sur backcountry and his commitment to its preservation was inspirational. In fact, he donated the large majority his self-published books to the VWA to be used as fundraisers for the organization. Copies of Lost Camps of the Ventana and Invisible Camps of the Ventana remain available for a donation of $50 per book. You can honor Paul’s memory and support the VWA by securing your copies today.
